Hi Richard,

Is there a way to only display the puzzle grid and the controls under it and not all the stuff to the right? For example in a single 9x9 jigsaw grid, the extended stuff to the right is what I want to be able to hide (not display). Is this possible?

Thanks,
George

No way at the moment. I could always consider it . . .

Thanks Richard. that option would help unclutter the screen.

Hi Richard,

Just getting back to Sudoku. There is one area that I wish SS handled differently. Let me try to explain.

I do notice using SS that pencil mark elimination is not as "automatic" as SudoCue was (is). For example, placing a big number in a cell, the other cells where pencil marks are slated to be removed show up in red in a yellow cell and the user then has to click somewhere on the grid to actually have them removed.

Also, big numbers placed in overlapping areas are not automatically placed when going to that overlapping area's other grid. The user has to manually place the singles that were placed in the other grid in the current grid.

Is there anyway to make the above situations truly automatic?

Thanks for keeping Sudoku alive with Sudoku Solver, Richard.

Regards,
George

I originally developed SS as something of a "teacher" - so I had it show each step what had been changed - that's why the candidates that have been eliminated are shown coloured before being removed. I guess I could introduce an option that just removed them.

The show up as "hidden" singles in the overlapping grid for the same reason, the solver is stepping you through to show each step. Again, I could introduce an option to automatically place them.

I understand your original concept. That seems reasonable. That being said, an option to make all this automatic would be really great. Thanks for considering this, Richard.

All the best,
George

Richard, do you have any plans to and some point enable SudokuSolver to generate puzzles? JSudoku is the only program I know of that generates gattai and other variants, but it is so limited, and of course we all know that it's no longer being developed.

Hi Richard,
Another query. I notice that if I double click on a cell that already has a "big" number in it, either an original clue or a placed number, that the "big" number goes away and is replaced with two pencil marks. One pencil mark for the "big" number and a pencil mark representing the location in the cell where the mouse was pointing.

Just curious, why does the program do this? It would seem that once a big number is placed, changing it should not be allowed by double clicking on the cell. Especially an original clue.

Thanks,
George

I might as well another item to Richard's list. The last couple of versions of SS don't like me quickly clicking to another cell (at least in killers). It thinks I'm trying to select both cells rather than leave the old one. For example, the image below I've used the "n" shortcut to highlight n1 then n2 then n3. But because the cell in n2 is still showing the red rectangle focus on cell r2c5 it has un-highlighted n2 when I didn't want that. Hope that makes sense. I find I just have to travel around the grid very slowly now.

Cheers
Ed

I guess I'm the only one left in any sudoku forum (most of which are dead anyway) that is interested in any sudoku variant other than killers. I suppose it's too much to hope that SudokuSolver will someday support all of the variants that JSudoku does. However, JSudoku hasn't been updated in something like four years, and I much prefer the interface and printing options of SudokuSolver.

When I try to copy a killer or killer diagonal grid from Jsudoku, it doesn't come out correct.

For example I tried to copy this grid from Jsudoku

3x3:d:k:2305:4866:4866:4866:4866:6403:6403:6403:6403:2305:2305:3847:6152:4617:4617:4617:4874:4874:3087:3087:3847:6152:3088:3088:2065:2065:4874:6421:6421:3847:6152:3088:3862:3862:4887:4874:6421:6421:1819:6152:3612:3862:2589:4887:5918:2595:2595:1819:5668:3612:3612:2589:4887:5918:3111:2595:5668:5668:3612:10536:10536:5918:5918:3111:2860:2860:2860:4909:10536:1838:1838:4399:3111:3636:3636:4909:4909:10536:10536:2613:4399:

3143:

I now see the following

Image

Even though I don't always see the message, It only happens when I try to paste in any gattai grid with diagonals.
