Hi I have never been to a forum like this, so excuse my typing please. Started with the example on sudocue: 100000700900050000050000016009036120200009003003004050638005000000070000010300000 I got about this far 1 28 46 2468 2469 23 7 3489 5 9 28 467 12468 5 1237 2348 348 24 3 5 47 2489 249 27 2489 1 6 5 4 9 7 3 6 1 2 8 2 67 1 5 8 9 46 467 3 8 67 3 12 12 4 69 5 79 6 3 8 1249 249 5 249 479 12479 4 9 25 1268 7 128 3568 368 12 7 1 25 3 2469 28 568 68 249 gees, so much for trying to write with different font sizes, it didn't show. Anyways, what should I do next? Oh, by the way, this is all hand solving, I don't have any program and don't care about them. Thank you very much for helping me sleep. |

Welcome turtle. I hate getting software hints as well. Here are the marks from your diagram. I can see a hidden single in column 5, but that doesn't solve it. Hope someone else can see something. [edit: then a naked quad in r2] Code: .-------------------------------.-------------------------------.-------------------------------. | 1 28 46 | 2468 2469 23 | 7 3489 5 | | 9 28 467 | 12468 5 1237 | 2348 348 24 | | 3 5 47 | 2489 249 27 | 2489 1 6 | :-------------------------------+-------------------------------+-------------------------------: | 5 4 9 | 7 3 6 | 1 2 8 | | 2 67 1 | 5 8 9 | 46 467 3 | | 8 67 3 | 12 12 4 | 69 5 79 | :-------------------------------+-------------------------------+-------------------------------: | 6 3 8 | 1249 249 5 | 249 479 12479 | | 4 9 25 | 1268 7 128 | 3568 368 12 | | 7 1 25 | 3 2469 28 | 568 68 249 | '-------------------------------.-------------------------------.-------------------------------' Cheers Ed |

Hi turtle! Ed's first steps: 1. R6C5 = 1 (HS @ C5), R6C4 = 2 2. Naked quad (2348) locked in R2C2789 for R2 My two cents: 3. 8 locked in R13C4 @ N2 for C4 4. Naked pair (16) locked in R28C4 for C4 Rest is (Naked and Hidden) singles. |

Thanks, can someone tell me how to type these things right, or do you need a software? I must have been staring at this pathetic thing too long and did not see the hidden 1 in c5 Also, I was training to look for hidden quads too long that I forgot what a naked quad looked like.... now it should solve (I hope), if I get stuck again, I will come back.... |

turtle wrote: can someone tell me how to type these things right, or do you need a software? You'll need software I'm afraid. They usually have some sort of "export marks" option somewhere. When you paste the marks grid onto the forum here, you need to select the grid then click on the "Code" button. The buttons are just above the message body I'm typing into. It's all very quick once you get the idea.Posting on the forum that way means that anyone can select the marks, paste them into their software and do the manual solving from there! turtle wrote: if I get stuck again, I will come back.... Anytime! Good luck!Cheers Ed |

I agree about hand-solving, but a program can be very useful in helping you calculate pencil marks (I make too many mistakes before I ever start solving, which takes all of the fun out), maintain your puzzle collection, print puzzles out, and export puzzles and pencil marks for posting to a forum such as this. Richard's Sudoku Solver is wonderful for all of these. |

I'm almost as new to Sudoku as I am to this forum. It sounds like Richard's Sudoku Solver is just what I need. Can you tell me how to access it? Many thanks. Pat |
