Thanks for that Ed,

Although my Killer generator isn't as strong as some of the freely available ones ... I'm hoping that it would produce some good quality puzzles ....

the techniques that shouldn't be excessive are 1. innies & outies deductions 2. locked candidates

As my solver generator is a work in progress ... The puzzles generated are far from optimal ... therefore I will not be posting regularly in the near future.

I'm glad that the puzzles were interesting for some.

Why is a jigsaw killer called "Texas Jigsaw Killer" and not just "Jigsaw Killer"?

I have searched the Internet to find out if "Texas Jigsaw" is a special brand of jigsaw puzzles, without success.

Is "Texas Jigsaw Killer" just a pun on "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" ?

It could also be that Ruud (AFAIK the inventor of "Texas Jigsaw Killer" and the name) was a fan of the Saw film franchise, where one of the main characters is called "The Jigsaw Killer".
But this does not explain the inclusion of the word Texas.

It's been pointed out to me that the introduction to the Texas Jigsaw Killer page on Ruud's website starts "The combination of Jigsaw & Killer Sudoku must drive you mad. It immediately reminded me of an old horror movie."

The site's picture link to the TJK page actually shows a circular saw blade and a couple of fingers.

Thanks a lot for pointing this out. Why did I not see this myself :?:

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film is from 1974, so when Ruud introduced the Texas Jigsaw Killer in 2006, you could say that a film made some 32 years earlier is an old horror movie.

The first part of the the Saw film franchise is from 2004, so it cannot be called an old horror movie.
The picture Ruud uses is however a part of a poster for the Saw II film from 2005.

My personal conclusion is that the name "Texas Jigsaw Killer" is a pun on "Texas Chainsaw Massacre".
