HATMAN wrote: Matt points out that this is interesting - however he missed the fact that it is no-operator (i.e. it is unique without giving the operators - or bothering to mention the 10). {He might mention this in his solution which I have not looked at.} I would also guess that 1(2), 2(2), 5(2), 8(3), 12(3) with orthogonally connected cages is also unique -thoughts? I'm afraid I (once again) have to embrass you here a little bit. I didn't miss "the fact". In fact I have explored that no-op possibility way before you did, and found 2 solutions: Code: .-------.-------. |2 |8 | | | | :---.---'---. | |1 |12 | | | | | | | | .---'---: | | |5 | | | | | :---'---'-------: | | | | '---------------' 2143 4321 3214 1432 4231 2314 1423 3142 So yeah, this puzzle (even though so tiny) has to be taken with operators. |

OK I checked it a few times on paper (in a pub with my first few drinks after being bugged up for three days) and was pretty sure of it before posting. But then again I've made mistakes before - must try harder! On looking at your solution I missed the 12*(3) = 223 so my initial (with operators) solution was faulty anyway! |
