I would be curious to know whether anybody can rate this minimal, very low singles count, Samurai-X puzzle.

It was found by Mike Metcalf at the Players forum:

Code:
A: ...................................7.............................................
B: ......52.8.1.........9.....41......535..8..9.......6...............97......41....
C: ..7..........4.82..9.......4.6.........182........5..........5......69...........
D: ....3.......9........5....76...7........634...23.........15...2..2......7...9...5
E: .....7.....5..........92...5...............7.......398..7..................8.4.5.

A is the centre grid, B, C, D, E the corner grids, B = top left, C = top-right, D = bottom-right, E = bottom-left.

Note the single clue in the central grid!

Not a Killer, but lethal? :?:

Here is the same puzzle in the correct format for pasting into Richard Broughton's Sudoku Solver:
Code:
......52.8.1.........9.....41......535..8..9.......6...............97......41....
..7..........4.82..9.......4.6.........182........5..........5......69...........
...................................7.............................................
.....7.....5..........92...5...............7.......398..7..................8.4.5.
....3.......9........5....76...7........634...23.........15...2..2......7...9...5

JSudoku can't get very far. SudokuSolver does better but with lots of "Bowman's Bingo". It gets out the bottom right grid and parts of the others but then grinds to a holt. Have attached the SudokuSolver file for the puzzle at the end point. You can inspect the log if you like!

Cheers
Ed

Thanks Ed!

It is interesting that those solvers cannot actually complete the puzzle successfully.

It was confirmed as a minimal puzzle by a few of us, me with a DLX solver, others with SAT solvers.

It's certainly no P&P case, that is for certain, but only takes a few seconds for our solvers …

Cheers! 8-)

PS: These are simply observations, of course. I understand that neither SudokuSolver nor JSudoku is in any way designed to handle puzzles like this. And of course a DLX solver can't tell you anything useful about the puzzle that would help a human solver!
