It's tough for me to work on these during the week, but I have started on #1C. Enjoying it so far. Haven't caught any fish yet though :cheesey:

Went for Variant C. Used 1 Swordfish in Clueless grid + the usual locked candidates in the centre dot groups.

Have to admit I lost patience and used a uniqueness move in the bottom center grid that broke the whole thing open, even though I agree with most people that that's not really legal.

I'll go back this weekend and try to finish it the right way -- I think I was pretty close..... :scratch:

You found 1 (one) Basic Fish ONLY :shock: :shock: :shock:
According to JSudoku, #1C has 3 X-Wings and 2 Swordfish. So if you only found 1 Basic Fish without using jsmif's move or solving some Turbot Fish, Wings or Chains, I am really surprised.

This is a puzzle I really want to solve myself, but time is not on my side at the moment. I'm busy with the Samurai generation software and making new puzzles. Momentarily solving the mainstream edition of Regular Clueless Special #1. Due to all the software writing and puzzle generation I also had to catch up with some paperwork and my trustworthy BMW have had some hiccups for the fist time since I bought it in 1996. :|

Probably Glyn is smarter than JSudoku and found a Swordfish which unlocks the puzzle. Whereas JSudoku first made some less efficient moves before hitting a key move. In this particular case, I'm not surprised since X-Wings and swords in the clueless are checked after all other sub-grids.

One could always take a harder way to solve a puzzle. For example, if you move the XY-chain in front of all other solvers, JSudoku will use many chains even for puzzles that can be solved with singles only.

I was worried I'd slipped up so I had to do it again. :(
Thankfully it was ok, in fact seemed a bit easier 2nd time round. :thumbs:

I just solved #1C. Took me a good 2.5 hours and I caught much more fish than JSudoku, including a couple of Turbot Fish (Kites + Remote Pairs). But the Swordfish in the clueless grid seems to be the key to unlock the puzzle. I undid back to the point where it surfaces and it surfaces before any of the other fish I caught, so it is very likely the only fish you actually need to catch.

1B was very different. I'd only caught one fish when the Clueless grid was finished. I found just one pool that hadn't dried up, and there they were, swimming around some chains.

I reached for my rod, and found someone had taken it. :( While I wondered who the thief was I tried the ALS. :scratch:

[{6&3=4}r2c37-{4=7&6}r38c1 the 6's at r2c7 or r8c1 => r8c7<>6.]

I never found the thief, but in the meantime he'd made off with the fish and the chains too. :naughty:
