Twins 1

I've come up with another variant on Sukaku. For each "given cell" you have a choice of two numbers instead of just one.

I've called it twins but would welcome a better name.

There are 36 twins. In creating a puzzle you are not allowed to repeat a twin (similar to symmetry in Vanillas).

Provided you avoid naked triplets, fishes are required. This puzzle type seems to generate fishes and they are relatively easy to spot.

This first one needs a couple of fishes - one is very pretty.

Maurice,

Thanks for this new variant.

Two questions to make sure that I have understood your Twin Sudoku concept correctly:
1) The digit 1 in r1 must be in c1 or c4?
2) The digit 7 must not necessary be in c8?

There are no interactions between the cells, r1c14 = [13/21/23]. I confused things by mentioning Supea.

Twins Sudoku #1 Walkthrough:
01.
Image

02. r8c1=1 =>
a) Naked Single 8 in r8c6
b) Naked Single 2 in r3c6
c) Naked Single 2 in r1c1
d) Naked Single 7 in r1c8
e) Naked Single 4 in r4c1
f) Naked Single 1 in r4c8
g) Naked Single 9 in r7c8
h) Naked Single 2 in r9c7
i) Naked Single 5 in r6c7
j) Naked Single 2 in r6c5
k) Naked Single 3 in r4c4
l) Naked Single 1 in r1c3
m) Naked Single 4 in r5c5
n) Naked Single 3 in r2c7

03. Hidden Single 1 in r7c7
04. Hidden Single 1 in r9c5
05. Hidden Single 2 in r2c9
06. Hidden Single 2 in r5c8

07. Intersection on 2 locked in n7r8 -> n8r8<>2 -> Hidden Single 2 in r7c4 =>
a) Naked Single 6 in r8c4
b) Naked Single 4 in r3c4

08. Hidden Single 1 in r3c9
09. Hidden Single 1 in r2c2
10. Hidden Single 1 in r6c3
11. Hidden Single 1 in r5c6 (ALL 9 digit 1 are now placed)
12. Hidden Single 3 in r1c6

13. Intersection on 4 locked in n79r89 -> n8r9<>4 -> Hidden Single 4 in r7c6 =>
a) Naked Single 9 in r9c6
b) Naked Single 7 in r6c6

14. Hidden Single 6 in r9c8
15. Hidden Single 6 in r7c1
16. Intersection on 6 locked in n5r4 -> n6r4<>6 -> Hidden Single 6 in r5c7
17. Hidden Single 6 in r1c9
18. Hidden Single 6 in r3c3
19. Intersection on 3 locked in n9r8 -> n8r8<>3 -> Hidden Single 3 in r7c5

20. Rest of puzzle is Naked Singles only.

Some thoughts:
A puzzle having many bivalue cells is normally very vulnerable to an attack with CHAINS like XY-Chain, XY-X-Chain, XYT-Chain, Forcing-Chain and XY-Loop.

Your point about the chains is valid - this is one of the things I like about it.

Comment containing spoilers:
Your original statement saying that naked triplets and/or fishes are required to solve the puzzle still puzzles me. The only advanced technique I needed was a short XY-Chain, and I am unable to solve the puzzle without using a chain. If only a short and easy to spot XY-Chain is necessary to solve this puzzle ...
... it is a fairly easy puzzle and only took me minutes to solve. Writing the walktrough took much longer.
Hopefully you will post your way of solving it in due course. :study:

If you have a really DIFFICULT "Twins Sudoku" I would like to try it. ;) :bouncy:
I like all sort of chains, at least in a sudoku.

I use the term "fishes" in the broadest sense - so that includes chains.

I'll post another shortly.

Very interesting. This explains a lot and I learned something new. :study:

Hopefully you will post the solution with Naked Triplets and NO fishes! :?

I would also like to see your very pretty fish. 8-)

And what is Supea?

Provided you avoid naked triplets, fishes are required. - I meant this generally about the puzzle type.

my solution went:
Xy-wing on 2 r14c14 r1c4<>2

single and pointers then

Sue de Coq on 3578 r7&n7 which prettily eliminates 37 in N7 and 58 in R7

then singles

Supea on sudoku.com variants under supea or number pair.

Again thanks a lot for the clarification.
I hopefully now see it clearly. :sun:
Has nothing to do with the solving of this puzzle, but the fact that unless any three bivalue cells in a Twins Sudoku form a Naked Triplet, fishes would normally be required to solve the puzzle.

Thanks a lot. :applause:
Motivated me to finally take the time to learn SdC :study:

A Walkthrough based on HATMAN's solving path:
01.
Image

02. N/H-Singles + Intersections

03.
Image

04. N/H-Singles + Intersections

BTW, your first fish is not necessary to solve the puzzle, only the second one.
It makes the same crucial elimination of 7 in r8c1 as my single fish.
Thereafter the puzzles can be solved with N/H-Singles + Intersections as explained in steps 2 through 20 in my original WT.
Optimized Walkthrough based on HATMAN's solving path:
01.
Image

02. N/H-Singles + Intersections

I prefer my solution over your. I think mine is quite a bit easier.
