I have come up with a new type of puzzle that may interest you . It combines crosswords and sudoku. I have seen other puzzles that do this partially, but I think my idea is new in that all the letters are determined by crossword-type clues.

You place nine consonants in a nine-by-nine grid sudoku-style (i.e., with no repetitions in a row, column, or nonet). The letters are the consonants in the answer to a clue and are placed Boggle-style (i.e., consecutive consonants adjacently) in a region (called a cage) of the sudoku.

If you are familiar with killer sudokus, this is like those, except we use consonants with clues in place of sums of numbers. Note to those who know killer sudokus: In our puzzles. letters are allowed to be repeated within cages. (Otherwise, we would have been limited to words where no consonants repeat.)

I have attached a sample puzzle in an Excel file. Frank Longo and I have come out with a book, entitled _Boggle Sudoku_, of these. See http://www.sterlingpublishing.com/catalog?isbn=9781402760372.

Enjoy.

Hmm, it is not clear to me where that file went. Here is a link to it.

An excellent puzzle formulation - well worth persuing. I particularly liked the hidoku effect.

However, with crosswords and a multinational audience you have the problem of word usage. I had difficulty with a few of your answers and did not understand clue 2 at all.

However there was sufficient redundancy to almost get there, however I did have to look at a couple of your answers.

Thanks

Maurice

Fair enough - my blinker problem

I'm going to have to create one in British english - perhaps with cryptic clues. But it will take a while to get to it given my current backlog.
