Samurai Windoku X Killer 1

I've seen Samurai Windoku before but I noticed that the structure was wrong. This is the correct way to lay them out. Note all five sub-puzzles are windoku and the linkages mean a window in the centre is a nonet in the corner and vice-versa.

Not too hard, serious use of LOL but no fishes. I expect Matt to do it on paper with markings.

I will do vanilla and Supea versions later.

Nice idea HATMAN,

I myself favour a Vanilla central subgrid .... With satellite Subgrids being Windokus.

That is my view for Gattai-5 anyway :study:

What puzzles me is your choice of two extra cages in the Bottom Left grid to establish uniqueness, when you only need one elsewhere (e.g. 9/2 @ r3c45 in the Central grid). Ideally the whole setup should be perfectly symmetrical but unfortunately it's not likely to be possible. :geek:

I take your point, but this way the puzzle is more "restrained".

Matt

I did get a bit obsessed with the bottom left grid, and was happy enought to find diagonal symmetry.

I'd like to see a standardized method for specifying the additional houses in a sudoku variant, akin to the puzzle specification, such as

..........6....2..9..8.7..4.3..2.........1.7........98....6......1......7.8....1.

to specfy

Code:
example
x 6 x | x x x | 2 x x
9 x x | 8 x 7 | x x 4
------+-------+-------
x 3 x | x 2 x | x x x
x x x | x x 1 | x 7 x
x x x | x x x | x 9 8
------+-------+-------
x x x | x 6 x | x x x
x x 1 | x x x | x x x
7 x 8 | x x x | x 1 x

I would propose something akin to that notation, say
1.......2.1.....2...1...2.....1.2.......3.......2.1.....2...1...2.....1.2.......1

which specifies
Code:
houses-for-diagnol
1 x x | x x x | x x 2
x 1 x | x x x | x 2 x
x x 1 | x x x | 2 x x
------+-------+-------
x x x | 1 x 2 | x x x
x x x | x 3 x | x x x
x x x | 2 x 1 | x x x
------+-------+-------
x x 2 | x x x | 1 x x
x 2 x | x x x | x 1 x
2 x x | x x x | x x 1

for the sudoku-X. We still need to specify that the main diagnol is both cells marked 1 and 3 and the main anti-diagnol is cells marked 2 and 3.

another, example, a simple "Windoku" can be given as:
..........111.222..111.222..111.222...........333.444..333.444..333.444..........

which maps out as
Code:
houses-for-Windoku
x 1 1 | 1 x 2 | 2 2 x
x 1 1 | 1 x 2 | 2 2 x
------+-------+-------
x 1 1 | 1 x 2 | 2 2 x
x 3 3 | 3 x 4 | 4 4 x
------+-------+-------
x 3 3 | 3 x 4 | 4 4 x
x 3 3 | 3 x 4 | 4 4 x
