I'm a little confused by the terminology here. What is the difference between a consecutive puzzle and a non-consecutive one? It seems as though the two are often lumped together.

A consecutive puzzle has a property that all neighbouring cells with consecutive values are marked by a thick border between them.

So if you see 2 cells with a thick border between them, you know their values must be consecutive. If you see 2 cells without a thick border between them, you know their values must not be consecutive.

A non-consecutive puzzle is a special instance of consecutive puzzles, where none of any neighbouring cells have consecutive values. As a result, you see no thick border between any pair of neighbouring cells.

Thanks for the explanation, udosuk!

Is that why I see all of them on djape.net (which is where I usually see such puzzles) labeled "(non)consecutive", regardless of whether they're consecutive or non-consecutive?
