I just had a strange experience. I tried solving puzzlemix.com Sudoku XV 788. While trying to solve this puzzle, I got to a point where the only thing I could do was guess – so I did. A short while later, same thing – so I guessed again. In the end, I believe that my solution is proper. However, when I asked puzzlemix to show me their answer, it is different from mine.

So, can a puzzle be solved more than one way?

Hi Groston
No, a valid puzzle can only have one solution. If it has multiple solutions, find a new puzzle site!

I looked up the site and this puzzle type has the extra constraint
Quote:
"All possible 'v's and 'x's are shown in the puzzle, so if there is no 'v' or 'x' between two touching squares then they do not add up to 5 or 10.

This means that every time a 1 & 4 touch or a 2 & 3 touch there is a 'v' between them. And every time a 1 & 9, or 2 & 8, or 3 & 7, or 4 & 6 touch there is a 'x' between them"

Unfortunately, your solution has many 1 and 4 touching that are not 'v'ed so your solution is not valid. Good news for trusting that site!

Good on you for trying all these. Mind bending.

Cheers
Ed
