What is the earliest position for "0123456789", for example? :geek:
From the 26,852,899,245th decimal place!

Thanks Børge!

But that was for "01234567891". I suspect the number could be smaller if we allow the 11th digit to be 2..9 instead of 0/1. :?:

Why not just write your own computer program for calculating the decimals of Pi and searching for whatever subsequences you want to know when occur?
HERE are links to algorithms

The source I used was The Pi Search Page only goes to 200 million places so I had to cheat a bit. Useful for shorter strings though.

Glyn, thanks heaps for the link. I found out that 876543210 appears at position 2747956 (quite a small number), which should be quite attractive for a Sudoku using the digits 0..8. :ugeek:

Børge, don't think I have enough brain/computer power/time to program that myself. Guess I'll have to let it settle as a mystery. Thanks for the link though. ;)

Ayi-yi! My eyes are officially glazing over!! When I was in school, we had to manually calculate the first 8 or so places after the decimal. That was enough for me!!

If you can remember sufficient digits of Pi, the next task to set yourself is "Can I remember the reciprocal"

Para your idea on Killers is good, particularly on Repeats - I may go back to 007s.

Matt - what is the alphabetic scribble at the bottom of your posts?

Glad you ask. ;) It's related to a very nice brainteaser. Check elsewhere in the forum. :ugeek:
