Greetings,

I would like some help on this issue.

The puzzle string below is a jigsaw sudoku created in JSudoku. JSudoku (JS) states that the solution requires 3 Empty Rectangles to solve.

In Sudoku Solver (SS), the grid can be solved without ERs or other than very basic techniques.

In JS, if I turn off ER, JS cannot solve the puzzle.

Can someone please explain why these two programs are yielding such different results? It is clear that the puzzle can be solved with SS using simple techniques.

I have listed the solver techniques that are currently set in each program below. Also, the puzzle code is listed below.

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Sudoku Solver List:

You appear to have Law of Leftovers switched off with it on JS gives:
35 Naked Single
26 Hidden Single
3 Naked Pair
2 LoL Synchronization
5 Law of Leftovers up to 3 cells

I'll try it switched off later.

Thanks for checking into this. Yes, I am not using the LOL technique at this time. Therefore, please switch both of the LOL techniques in your list off.

George

PROBLEM SOLVED --- I filed to have rectangular blocks set. Sorry for any trouble.

I have gone back to Jsudoku now and after creating a solver's list without ER, I have loaded back the one that had ER in it. It shows properly under preferences. However when I look at the list of solver's on the tab on the right side of the screen and import the solver list to that screen, ER stays grayed out. I have tried everything I know to do, but cannot get ER to not be grayed out. Even restarted the program and this makes no difference.

So how can I un-gray ER?

Hi Hatman,

Did you ever get a chance to try out both software packages as described above?

Regards,
George
