When I write a post, the font used in the edit pane is a variable width font. Verdena I think.
Is it somewhere (in the User Control Panel) possible to select the font used in the edit pane to be a fixed width font, for instance Courier (New)?

I haven't tried that, but whenever I want a fixed-width font, I use the PRE (preformatted) tags. Maybe a little messier in the writing, but transparent in the reading.

It looks like this.

I am very familiar with PRE. I use it in all posts I post with Regular puzzles.
The problem is that it is cumbersome to edit multi-line PRE text in the edit pane using a variable width font. Especially when several columns need to be aligned over several lines. My workaround is to use a program editor, but it does not have an on-the-fly spell checker like Firefox.

Unfortunately, I don't see any other way to do it.

OK, I've implemented a new bbcode - you can see it on the posting screen, called fixed.

[fixed]If you put your text inside this [fixed][/ fixed] pairing you should get it presented in a monospace font. Other formatting should still work within that block - so you can bold, add colour, etc.[/fixed]

Embedded quote, etc don't work too well - they revert to the quote style. But for most purposes the [fixed]fixed keyword should do what you want[/fixed]

This is an example illustrating that I unfortunately was not able to express myself clearly, precise and unambiguously in writing.
Hopefully the following image says more than 1000 words.

OK - understood

I have created a new style - subsilver - in every respect it is the same as subsilver2, but the text editor for the posting of new topics uses a monospace font.

You can choose this in your User Control Panel by selecting subsilver in the board preferences -> my board style

Let me know if this does what you want . . .

Basically this is exactly what i want.
And by having multiple sessions in for instance multiple browser tabs I can change forth and back between subsilver (fixed width font) and subsilver2 (variable width font) on-the-fly. Great

The only problem is that the monospace font is displayed very small, approx. 7.5 points in Firefox. In IE it is displayed much bigger, approx. 10 points.
The variable width font (Verdena) is displayed identical in both browsers, approx. 10 points.

I know that I can change the size by Ctrl+MouseScrollWheel , but this also makes everything else bigger or smaller.
If possible, please make the font size of the monospace font larger.
The font and point size used for text inside [ pre][ /pre] would be ideal. It is displayed identical in both Firefox and IE!
To me it looks like you now are using the font and point size used for text inside [ fixed][ /fixed]

Is there any sense in having both [fixed][/ fixed] and [pre][/ pre] ?

OK - modified the new theme to have a 10pt font in the editor. Hope it does the trick.

No - none whatsoever, since I misinterpreted your original note.
However, I have given an alternative to pre to also allow specification of a font size (in points)
This is standard pre-formatted text

This specified a point size of 12
