Hopefully this somehow answers your question.

Yes, thanks! As long as you list the required techniques, that will give me an idea (perhaps not always accurate) of whether it's doable for me or not.

Why not change all of this to a star grading system (1/2 star - 5 stars) ...

That is 10 grades & remove the descriptive terms (A seperate thread to explain star Difficulty correlation) ...

it is less tedious & more universal IMHO.

If you favour that, then I'm ready to upload 10 images to tinypic for hotlinking

Thanks for the offer.

Personally I do not see any real benefits from changing the current system to a star grading system.
Adding new grades, which I sometimes do, like a Junior or Senior of a current grade would be more difficult. I think.

If others favors tarek's system over todays, I have no hard feelings about changing it.

BTW: Let's have a look at your 10 STAR images.

Hopefully you did not have a major fatigue breakdown due to all that hard work. ;)

Just to make sure I have understood you correct:
Your suggestion is to change the current difficulty levels description (Novice, Apprentice, etc.) to a star grading system
and NOT to change the Ratings (Moderate, Tough, Hard, etc.) to a star grading system?

In case of the former, which is what I believe you are suggesting, I personally think that persons new to the forum may easier relate to the current descriptions than to a star grading system. To me terms like Novice, Apprentice and Master intuitively tells me more than one, two or three stars.

Starting with Regular Clueless Explosion #45 I will add inpost links to the current explanations of the Difficulty Levels and the Ratings. This hopefully as a benefit for persons new to the forum. In case we decide to change something to for instance a star grading system, I can just change the links to whichever post explains the correlation.

Relating to the star grading system, here are the options according to MY preference:

1. Replace All of the Level (apprentice, Novice, ...) & Ratings (Hard, Very Hard) with one Star rating system
2. Change the current rating system (Hard, Very hard, ...) with the Star rating system & leave only 3 levels (Novice, apprentice, Master) .... You can get 30 combinations out of thi
3. Change Only the current rating system (Hard, Very hard, ...) with the Star rating system.
4. No changes at all

I have done the following changes to my rating table:
  • Moved Finned Fish from Extra Hard to Super Hard.
  • Moved Uniqueness Test 1 from Super Hard to Extra Hard.

How do you generate the lists of required techniques for your puzzles? I would like to do the same for some of the other puzzles I have (especially all of Ruud's "specialties"), so that I know whether or not to tackle a particular puzzle.
