The forum is 10.5 years old now. I've been noticing that almost all of the posts lately have been from the same few people, so I did a quick-and-dirty analysis. There have been no new registrations in almost three years. There are 103 users with at least one post (out of 162 registered users). Of those 103, 50 have posted at least 5 times. Of those 50, fifteen (listed below) have logged in since the first of the year (only the first seven since the beginning of this month):

Andrew
enxio27
Ed
HATMAN
wellbeback
Smythe Dakota
Morozov - only participation is updating his thread on the Cross+A software
rcbroughton
azpaull
ixsetf
Afmob
tarek
Frank
h3lix
trevor54

That's not a lot of participation. Hard to keep conversation going with such a small group, although HATMAN, Ed, and Andrew seem to keep things going on the Killer threads, and HATMAN is kind enough to post his variant puzzles, as well. The dailysudoku.com forum is having the same issues. Not only that, but their admin (Sam Griffith-Jones) has long since disappeared, and their primary moderator, Marty R, is no longer doing sudoku. That leaves the enjoysudoku forums as the only other remaining sudoku forum of any consquence. Not sure what this portends for the future, although I'm very grateful for Richard's quick action in providing a place for all of us refugees from the Sudocue forums when Ruud disappeared.

Sadly, the sudoku scene will never again be what it was in its heyday, 10-12 years ago now. That ship has long since sailed. I sometimes find it a bit comical (in a sad sort of way) how many are still trying to make a fast buck (or other currency) from publishing new sudoku books and phone apps.

I for one will never stop doing sudoku, although I'm nowhere near the level of many of the regulars here or on the other forums. I can generate my own vanilla puzzles (as if I didn't already have a HUGE collection from various sites), and I'm working on learning how to generate variants and gattai, in case all the forums should dry up and disappear someday.

Hi enxio27,

When Sudoku exploded into our lives in 2005, the general interest was great. The attraction to sudoku solving/creation in our communities was also for a variety of reasons. All of these gradually waned with time.

People's interests also change with time and that also may take preference over what was one an essential activity.

Although I am still active; I am too one of those who used to dedicate so much time to everything that s sudoku related at one stage but not anymore!

Hi enxio27, tarek, HARDHAT!

While I was waiting for reg key to arrive, I found this thread.

So it seems that the only hardcore enthusiasts left are us! 8-)

PS: Definitely an excessive number of smilie options here :(

Kind of humbling, my "newbie" tag … 8-)

Ok, a question befitting my lowly status, why do Clueless puzzles have so many clues??

Haha! You may be a "newbie" here, but you're certainly not a newbie to the sudoku scene as a whole.

LOL! I guess that would be a question for Ruud van der Werf, but he hasn't answered any emails since he disappeared from the sudoku world 11 years ago.

Bill was subject to a false "Passing away" claim by me. He has been acting strange since his phoenix revival. He is allowed to do these things in my book

You mean that the reports of his demise were greatly exaggerated?
