The following statement appears in Help > Solver Tools > Common Tools > Update Marks

"If the automatic update feature is turned off, the Update Marks option can be used to update pencil marks on the basis of a single cage value."

Where is the "automatic update feature"?

Yes - Richard hasn't worded that real well. Another private message? It's in the Tools menu and is called "Placement Feedback". It's automatically ticked whenever SS is opened. I usually untick it for doing killers 'cause it does too much: cage-cleanup and locking of required candidates. But that is just my opinion and don't always keep it unticked (get lazy at the easy end of a puzzle).

Loved the "Eddie Baby" video  .

Cheers
Ed
