Is SudokuSolver supposed to automatically update candidates as the puzzle is solved?

Hi enxio

It should do.

Depends if you have "Placement Feedback" checked in the Tools Menu.

If this is checked, you will get pencil marks updated when you manually enter values in cells. If you don't have this checked, you need to clean up pencil marks yourself (either by going through each affected cell, or using Update Marks, to do it for you).

If you have Placement Feedback checked and it's not doing it, then that would be a bug and you'd need to send me some more specifics so I can track it down.

Ahhh. I probably have Placement Feedback turned off, because I wasn't sure what it was for.

As you know, I prefer to solve on paper, but if I mess up a puzzle (usually a large multi-grid such as a Clueless), it's often because I made a mistake with eliminating pencil marks or transferring between grids. A couple of times now, I've restarted a puzzle and then used either SudokuSolver or JSudoku (for the puzzles types SudokuSolver can't handle) to enter the solved cells and locked candidates from the first pass and check my pencil-mark clean-up, and it's helped.

UPDATE: It seems to be working fine with Placement Feedback turned on. What else does Placement Feedback do?
