Hi Richard
A problem with the new version on your website: the "Options" menu is unusable! I use Windows 7.

Interesting (or not) - I hate how Windows messes about with it's graphics between versions. Let me see what I can do with it

Can't save any changes and if you tick any boxes (the few you can see) it won't use them after you close the window. /quote]That sounds like something different again.

This is with V3.6.3 Actually, I just noticed that the "About" menu is also cut off
Windows graphics messing about again.

Weird thing - all I did was move to a new version of windows and had to change the width of the main window 'cos it was getting chopped off. I didn't actually change any code.

EDIT
I've just tried it out on both Windows 10 and Windows 7 machines I have - although the "Options" screen is a little tight on the right - it is all there and clicking OK does use the checked options. Are you using larg fonts or any other themes on your Windows machines?

Hmm - found the culprit. I just changed the settings on my Win 7 machine to use "Medium 125%" under display options - and that's what messes up the drawing of the windows.

I guess I need to look at how those options affect the scaling in the application - maybe it didn't used to be a problem in earlier versions of the Microsoft Graphics library - there may be a way I can tell it to ignore the system settings.

Sounds like you might have worked out the problem Richard. Hope you can find a fix. Otherwise, I'll go back to an earlier version of SS and put it on my new computer.

I'm not using any large fonts or themes. I sometimes use the magnifier on the SS interface if I'm getting desperate for another elimination!!

Since I've moved on to latest version of the Microsoft toolset, it looks as though the way the new MS NET framework handles AutoScaling for different screen resolutions has changed - which is why the display is getting out of whack.

I've done some work to eliminate the majority of the problems (I hope) on the main display, solver options and display options. It might mean the fonts look a little small for you - let me know.

I have put another version of the installer for you to try. It's still v3.6.5 - so you'll need to manually uninstall the previous v3.6.5 before trying it.

Getting better! The Options are all there and work which is the main thing. Unfortunately, the Puzzle Type menu sits over the top of the output. See screen shot attached. I can't read what SS has just done and I like to type in my own notes.

Yep! Thankyou!!

But found another rogue bug...sorry Richard.
This code doesn't work for a zero killer. Get an error message "Bad Killer import string" It works on the old version of SS on my old computer (still v3.6.3).

3x3::k:0000:0000:3840:3840:3840:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:4883:4883:4883:3330:3330:3330:0000:0000:2051:6148:6148:773:3078:3078:0000:2567:2567:2051:4872:6148:773:6153:3078:6410:6410:6410:4872:4872:3851:6153:6153:6153:6410:2828:2828:3851:3851:3851:4621:6153:4366:1551:2828:3088:0000:0000:0000:4621:4621:4366:1551:1551:3088:0000:0000:4369:4369:4369:2834:2834:2834:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:3841:3841:3841:0000:0000:

However, the new version doesn't have a problem with all zero killers. This one works fine - though it is also an X which may make a difference.
3x3:d:k:26:27:3585:3586:3587:3588:4360:5129:5642:28:3585:3586:3587:3588:4360:5129:5642:29:3585:3586:3587:3588:4360:5129:5642:30:31:32:3585:3586:3587:3588:4360:5129:5642:33:2578:2578:2578:34:35:36:4633:4633:4633:37:4632:7191:6934:4373:5396:5651:2577:38:39:40:4632:7191:6934:4373:5396:5651:2577:41:4632:7191:6934:4373:5396:5651:2577:42:4632:7191:6934:4373:43:5396:5651:2577:44:

Seems X does make a difference. Another one with no x that the new version doesn't like
3x3::k:4097:4097:4097:5888:4624:4624:4624:3345:3858:2315:2315:2315:5888:4367:4367:4367:3345:3858:5386:4364:3341:5888:2574:2574:2574:3345:3858:5386:4364:3341:6404:5888:6404:0000:0000:0000:5386:4364:3341:0000:6404:0000:2835:5908:5141:0000:0000:0000:6404:5379:6404:2835:5908:5141:2824:4105:3333:3333:3333:5379:2835:5908:5141:2824:4105:4102:4102:4102:5379:2582:2582:2582:2824:4105:4103:4103:4103:5379:3586:3586:3586:

Edit: also can't seem to pin SS to the Taskbar.

Seems X does make a difference.

The X was coincidence.

Seems this was an issue I introduced in v.3.6.4 - if you look at the definition strings, in the one that works the Zero cage cells have a non-zero string - and the ones that didn't work they have 0000. I think I have fixed that in a version I just posted.

Unfortunately, I don't see that problem on my machines - either Windows 10 or Windows 7.

Nearly works! It now pastes in but that first code above should have a 10(2) cage at r7c12. It should get an SS score of 2.15 not 3.95

I've put a screen shot. When I right-click it doesn't give Taskbar as an option. Is there another way for me to do it?

Merry Christmas!

If I reformat the definition string per below - the two cells at R7C1-2 are both "0000" which is no cage
Code:
3x3::k:
     C1     C2     C3    C4     C5    C6     C7     C8     C9
R1 0000:0000:3840:3840:3840:0000:0000:0000:0000:
R2 0000:4883:4883:4883:3330:3330:3330:0000:0000:
R3 2051:6148:6148: 773:3078:3078:0000:2567:2567:
R4 2051:4872:6148: 773:6153:3078:6410:6410:6410:
R5 4872:4872:3851:6153:6153:6153:6410:2828:2828:
R6 3851:3851:3851:4621:6153:4366:1551:2828:3088:
R7 0000:0000:0000:4621:4621:4366:1551:1551:3088:
R8 0000:0000:4369:4369:4369:2834:2834:2834:0000:
R9 0000:0000:0000:0000:3841:3841:3841:0000:0000:

If I put the extra 10(2) cage in manually and score it, it comes out at 2.15 as you say - but the definitione string I get is slightly different
Code:
3x3::k:
   C1   C2   C3   C4   C5   C6   C7   C8   C9
R1 0000:0000:3840:3840:3840:0000:0000:0000:0000:
R2 0000:4865:4865:4865:3330:3330:3330:0000:0000:
R3 2051:6148:6148: 773:3078:3078:0000:2567:2567:
R4 2051:4872:6148: 773:6153:3078:6410:6410:6410:
R5 4872:4872:3851:6153:6153:6153:6410:2828:2828:
R6 3851:3851:3851:4621:6153:4366:1551:2828:3088:
R7 2580:2580:0000:4621:4621:4366:1551:1551:3088:
R8 0000:0000:4369:4369:4369:2834:2834:2834:0000:
R9 0000:0000:0000:0000:3859:3859:3859:0000:0000:

Hmm. Odd. I get the option on both Win7 and Win10 machines.

Can you just drag the icon from the start menu /desktop on to the Taskbar?
